The Cordillera Blanca range in northern Peru has an incredible concentration of 6000m peaks, including Peru’s highest mountain, the twin peaked Nevado Huascaran 6768m. The mountains run roughly north to south; with an extension of 120km and is about 20km wide. Between the dramatic peaks of the Cordillera Blanca the valleys are dotted with stunning turquoise glacial lakes. Most treks and climbs follow these valleys which run mostly west to east through the mountains. The Cordillera Blanca is largely included within the Huascaran National Park, established in 1975, which covers an area of 3400 sq km. Our home of Huaraz is situated in the heart of the Cordillera Blanca and is fast becoming known as the trekking, hiking and climbing capital of Peru.
